You may have heard of DON’T NOD games thanks to their amazing work on Life is Strange (Episodes 1-5), Life is Strange 2, and The Awesome Adventures of Captain Spirit. Other titles include Gerda: A Flame in Winter, Tell Me Why, Vampyr, and the highly anticipated Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden and Harmony: The Fall of Reverie.
This studio doesn’t sit still, raking in one deserved award after another. They’re known for their strong narrative storytelling and compelling Choose Your Own Adventure gameplay, where choices really do matter. The visuals for their games also complement the themes that are being played with, sealing the package deal beautifully. We cannot recommend their work enough!
This narrative adventure doubles as a thriller! Twin Mirror explores the seemingly unsuspecting town of Basswood. Who’s more suited to get to the bottom of this place’s mysteries than ex-investigative journalist Samuel Higgs? He may have left his hometown and past behind some years ago, but he knows the town better than anyone… or at least, he thinks he does.
Sam’s adventure is dual-sided, forcing him to balance this life-changing investigation with life-changing reconciliation of his own past. You will have to help him make many pivotal choices and up his investigation game as you delve deeper into both Sam’s and the town’s murky history.
Sam has an analytical mind, which is a great boon for his investigation. Enter his Mind Palace to revisit memories, glance at possible scenarios, and reconstruct events to get to the whole truth…or only a fragment of it? Sam’s Mind Palace is an extension of himself, and his state of mind may turn a safe haven into a treacherous deception.
On top of the previously mentioned narrative choices, the titular Twin Mirror is also available for Sam’s use. Utilize it to its fullest potential to converse with his Double who heavily contrasts with his original self. Much more outgoing and understanding than the real Sam is to the outside world, his mirror image may prove to be an irreplaceable confidant. That’s up to you to decide. Trust no one, not even yourself.
Twin Mirror is a powerful graphic adventure featuring uniquely fitting mechanics that suck you right into the game. This relatively short game takes around 6 hours to complete. It’s very accessible and doesn’t ask much of your time for the full experience, either. Exploring all the options at your leisure may take you a bit longer, but the game might just nestle itself into your own Mind Palace.
